Please Report Coyote Sightings!

Please report any coyote sightings to Chris Matthews of Meck County Park and Rec, who is now tracking the coyote population and locating hot spots. This is not for removal of the animals but to begin to understand their patterns and the issue facing us better.

Crosland Has Begun Work on Quail Corners

Retail development firm Crosland Southeast has begun work on the $6 million redevelopment of Quail Corners in south Charlotte.

Crosland Southeast will first reconfigure the interior parking lot at the 113,000-square-foot center, at the intersection of Park Road and Sharon Road West.

In the spring, work will begin on a Harris Teeter vestibule expansion and the refacing of all the storefront exteriors with a combination of brick masonry and stucco.

An open-air plaza for outdoor dining and weekend entertainment also will be created, and several spaces will be reconfigured. The project, which will add 10,000 square feet to the center, is expected to be completed by fall 2012.

Crosland, which owns the retail center through an affiliate company, won city approval for the redevelopment in April after a contentious rezoning process. Some neighborhood residents opposed the addition of a fast-food restaurant with a drive-through window at the property. While the city staff acknowledged that is inconsistent with the South District plan, City Council approved the rezoning petition.

At the end of the year, Salsarita’s will relocate from its outparcel location to a storefront in the center, making way for the new fast-food restaurant at the intersection of Park Road and Hamlin Park Drive. Peter Pappas, a partner at Crosland Southeast, declines to name the restaurant operator in line to join Quail Corners, but real estate sources say McDonald’s Corp. is the likely new tenant. The architect on the project is BB+M Architecture, and the general contractor is Myers & Chapman.
